Happy Worms

Bob Johnson, notorious crime boss, is gunned down in the streets of Kings Cross.  His near death experience leads him to contemplate the meaning of life.  Is there a God, a Heaven and a Hell, and if so which religion should he adopt to avoid one and get into the other?

Bob hires Chris Hunter, a history researcher who helped save his life in Kings Cross, to solve the problem.  But Chris has a number of difficulties.  The finest minds in the civilized world have not provided the definitive answers to these big questions, and Bob Johnson’s half million dollar fee does not guarantee success.  Furthermore, the police want Chris to provide them with inside information on Bob’s gang and are blackmailing him with CCTV footage of his alleged participation in a crime.

Chris’s girlfriend, part time actress and full time waitress Jill McIntyre, does not believe that research should be funded by the proceeds of crime, while Larry, Bob’s right hand man, violent thug and born again Christian, wants to ensure Chris’s research leads to the correct conclusions.

Bob wants to wipe out his rival.  “Ten Fingers” Murphy and his gang are trying to take over Bob’s patch and must be eliminated.  But Bob must first make sure that repentance, after the bloodbath, will allow him entry to Heaven when he dies.

Can Chris find the answer to the meaning of life?  Will this answer satisfy the increasing agitated Larry?  Can he get the police off his back?   Can he win back the affection of his girlfriend?  Can he avoid being killed in the cross fire as Bob and “Ten Fingers” Murphy take their gangs to war?

All these big questions are answered when the Murphy gang gate crashes a religious seminar and threatens Jill’s life.  Chris and various religious teachers, from the gun toting Catholic Priest, to the bigoted fundamentalist Christian to the confused Hindu, help Bob discover whether Heaven and Hell are real, or whether we die, are buried, and have no purpose other than to increase the number of happy worms.
